Huda Organics Climate Activist Spotlight: Swayam Shikshan Prayog

As many of you know, Huda Organics has joined the Show the Love campaign. This campaign is organised by The Climate Coalition. Show the Love runs through the month of February and is focused on showing decision-makers that real and urgent climate change policies need to be introduced NOW!

The Show the Love campaign encourages all participants to use the power of green hearts to express their own personal pledges, requests, and demands for climate action. One of the main tenets of Huda Organics is sustainability. For this reason, we are encouraging our customers to share their requests, concerns, and demands for climate action using the hashtag #qasilhearts. We will collect all of your comments and submit them on your behalf to local MPs. Your voice matters! Let it be heard!

In the spirit of this campaign, we have been showcasing notable climate activists and organisations on our social media.

One of the most formidable climate change organisations is Swayam Shikshan Prayog .

Swayam Shikshan Prayog is a non-governmental organisation established in Pune, India. The SSP is dedicated to supporting women in fields such as agriculture, health, and sanitation. The SSP was founded after the enormous Latur earthquake in the Maharashtra region of India. The SSP ran a female-led reconstruction strategy in the form of mixed-crop organic farming that requires little water, as well as utilising other sustainable harvesting methods. So far, it has empowered over 72,000 women to navigate these harsh, drought-ridden conditions and equipped them with the skills to deal with an ever-evolving climate landscape.

The SSP is now present in over 1300 villages, where its Samvad Sahayaks (the organisation’s communication facilitators) continue this climate advocacy work.

In addition to the agricultural reconstruction work The SSP has done, the organisation has also made it a point to create large scale livelihood opportunities for thousands of women. These opportunities are not only in key sectors such as agriculture and health, but also in clean energy. This has created communities where women are the main thought leaders in the burgeoning clean energy sector. The women are trained in clean energy technology and strategies. Most importantly, however, the women are given financial and skills-based entrepreneurial tuition, which has enabled many of them to form cooperatives with other like-minded women working to uplift their communities.
