As many of you know, Huda Organics has joined the Show the Love campaign. This campaign is organised by The Climate Coalition. Show the Love runs through the month of February and is focused on showing decision-makers that real and urgent climate change policies need to be introduced NOW!
The Show the Love campaign encourages all participants to use the power of green hearts to express their own personal pledges, requests, and demands regarding climate action. One of the main tenets of Huda Organics is sustainability. For this reason, we are encouraging our customers to share their requests, concerns, and demands for climate action using the hashtag #qasilhearts. We will collect all of your pledges and submit them on your behalf to local MPs. Your voice matters! Let it be heard!
In the spirit of this campaign, we have been showcasing notable climate activists and organisations across our social media.
One of the most formidable climate change movements is Fridays for Future.
Fridays for Future is a global youth climate change movement that began in Sweden in 2018. It began as a one-person protest led by Greta Thunberg, who has since become one of the most prominent voices in the climate movement.
When Thunburg began her protest, she did so with a simple premise: why should she attend school and listen to teachers, when politicians do not listen to facts?
Thunberg began her protest in the lead-up to the Swedish elections in September, which just so happened to coincide with a series of wildfires, and the hottest summer in Sweden’s history. On the first day of the protest, Thunberg sat alone. On the second day, however, she was joined by a handful of other young people. After a few weeks, this otherwise quiet protest captured the attention of the world’s media.
By October, eight girls in Victoria, Australia, had been so inspired by Thunberg’s protest that they decided to organise their own. This had a domino effect that compounded in thousands of young people organising and taking to the streets to demand significant climate action from world leaders.
A notable day in the Fridays for Future movement was the 15th of March in 2019. Young people from 2233 schools in 128 countries walked out of school to protest against world leaders' lack of decisive action to tackle climate change.
The numbers reflect how important the cause is to young people across the world.

If we fast forward to 2022, the movement has inspired 1.4 young people and activists to create content, give speeches, form independent off-shoot organisations, write letters to leaders, and protest.
Fridays for Future is often criticised for enabling and encouraging truancy. The movement, however, contends that the anger it has generated in leaders is equal to the anger young people feel towards governments failing to take urgent action to curb global temperature spikes.
To this day, Thunberg refuses to attend school until the Swedish government’s policies create a solid foundation to ensure that the world’s temperature does not exceed 2 degrees, as pledged in the Paris Climate Accord.
If we put aside the criticism Fridays for Future has garnered, it has shown that climate change is one of the biggest hot-button issues in the world - especially for young people. Many young people from Australia to the UK now assess what party they are going to vote for based on the quality of that party’s climate change policies. This trend is sure to continue for decades to come as the climate crisis continues to escalate.
